A cellular telecommunications network that transmits information through the airwaves across a series of geographically defined "cells" via low-power transmitters. As a cellular user roams, the signal is handed off from one "cell" to the next to maintain the connection. These networks are overlayed on top of and interconnected with the terrestrial wired network.
