Description: The container ships are part of Military Sealift Command's Prepositioning Program. MV Capt. Steven L. Bennett is prepositioned in the Western Mediterranean Sea and carries U.S. Air Force cargo. MV LTC Calvin P. Titus and MV SP5 Eric G. Gibson are located in Saipan and carry U.S. Army support equipment and supplies.
Features: MV Capt. Steven L. Bennett, MV LTC Calvin P. Titus, MV SP5 Eric G. Gibson areself-sustaining meaning they have cranes which allow them to load and off-load themselves. This is an asset in ports with primitive, undeveloped or battle-damaged harbors.
Background: MV Capt. Steven L. Bennett was built in 1984 by Samsung Shipbuilding. MV Maj. Bernard F. Fisher is owned and operated by Sealift, Inc. and are under charter to Military Sealift Command. MV LTC Calvin P. Titus and MV SP5 Eric G. Gibson were completed in 1985 by Odense Steel Shipyard. The original Titus and Gibson were chartered in 1995 by MSC. They were replaced in the summer of 1999 by the present Titus and Gibson which are owned and operated by Osprey-Acomarit Ship Management.
