Actinolite is not a relative of "asbestos" it is "asbestos"! At least one of the 6 forms of the complete misadventure summarized and misnomered as "asbestos". Fibrous Actinolite is part of the 5 crystalline form, with many related forms, solid state asbestiform solution known as Actinolite - Tremolite, or commonly referred to as Tremolite asbestos or Actinolite asbestos. The two appear to be inseparble but occur in differing percentages depending upon what geographical area the natural occurring substance was gathered from. When in fibrous form also known as two of the fibers known as "amphibole asbestos". EPA has in one instance produced documentation indicating that as little as .01% soils content of Actinolite-Tremolite and/or its related fibrous minerals, "represent an imminent and substantial public health risk". Making, for the moment at least, Actinolite - Tremolite the "declared" most toxic form of "asbestos" known. One of only three natural occurring fiber forms known to produce environmental epidemics of mesothelioma and lung cancer from among those human populations who live on or reside near natural occurring deposits. Also speculated to cause n greta numbers, nn malignant human fibrotic disease among human populations that reside on or near natural occurring deposits of this mineral. (See El Dorado County California, Fairfax New Jersey, Mendham New Jersey,Anatolia Turkey, Metsovo Greece,French New Caledonia,Cyprus,Crete, etc etc etc). Making Actinolite perhaps the farthest thing from "non hazardous" that one might be able to imagine.
